About the Artist
Reshmeen Akther was born in Bangladesh and moved to the U.K in 2019 to pursue further her education. Â She is currently completing her undergraduate studies at University for the Creative Arts and has been developing her artistic abilities in the United Kingdom for several years. The artist works in a variety of mediums and art forms, including painting, sculpture, fine art photography, and performance art. Reshmeen's transition to fine arts allowed her to incorporate a variety of elements and topics, including feminism, gender inequality, and others. Reshmeen's use of these themes allows her to challenge and make an impact through her art. Through her work, she tries to depict the current state of women and their surroundings all over the world. As a Bangladeshi woman, Reshmeen witnessed women being oppressed, and as a Muslim woman, she continues to feel oppressed in the Western world. Her art, as a hijabi woman, depicts the representation of Islam and the hijab, as well as how it represents modesty, privacy, and moraility.
